AgileWords – Collaborative Editing of Word Docs

It’s always interesting to see companies go up against features that Google already does pretty well. AgileWords is the latest to attack the Goliath with a product aimed squarely at Google Docs. AgileWords enables you to upload a Word doc to the cloud, collaborate on the document collaboratively, and even speed up the process by allowing edits only during a short period.

AgileWords is currently in beta and doesn’t charge to use the service. Where it one-ups Google is in the area of document signoff, collaboration comments, and the already-mentioned limited-review period. Whether this will be enough to put a dent in Google’s audience remains to be seen.

At its best, AgileWords feels like a cross between Google Docs and a project-management software like UseStacks.com.  The web-based software is intended to be used for multiple documents at a time which is why project management has been built into the base of this project. Included in the project management are options for how to receive email notifications (per change or daily digest).

3 Reasons You Should Check Out AgileWords:

  • You have a team of three or more people that frequently collaborate on Word documents.
  • Your IT department will not let you use Google Docs for document management because of security concerns and the requirement of a Google account.
  • You want to take advantage of the free period of a beta product.

3 Reasons You Don’t Need AgileWords:

  • Your team is already using Google Docs and you don’t want to introduce another product for something that encompasses only one aspect of Google Docs.
  • You don’t want to work with a beta product because of the potential to run into bugs.
  • You don’t have large groups of people that need to edit Word Docs and don’t want to add the extra steps involved with AgileWords.

    Thanks Jeff for the review!

We are not trying to compete with Google Docs. In fact, we think that Google Docs and Agilewords are complementary. An integration between Agilewords and Google Docs could prove useful to many businesses!

Agilewords is different from most annotation tools in the sense that it provides structured collaboration and a clear review workflow. It’s targeted at businesses who need to collaborate with clients (creative, consultants, lawyers, writers). Agilewords makes it easy to collect feedback, track edits, and get approval in an easy-to manage document.

I invite people interested to learn more to drop us a line (contact at agilewords.com). We’d be glad to give a short demo and answer questions – PS: we’re nice people :-)
