Prezi – Never User Powerpoint Again
For the better part of two decades, Powerpoint has been the gold standard when it comes to putting together a presentation. Bosses around the world load it with bullet point after bullet point, throwing in an occasional clip art image to spice it up. Thankfully, that model appears set to change or at least get disrupted.
Web application Prezi has turned the idea of presentations on its side, literally. Prezi has a non-linear approach to presentations that allow you to think of your presentation as a giant white board. The presenter pre draws everything they want on this white board and then zooms the user around the whiteboard during the presentation, in a format that remains engaging no matter how boring the topic.
Presenters have unlimited ways they can present the same materials. They can turn the presentation sideways, zoom in on a specific part of a graphic, or show one-word, quick-hit text that would have felt funny isolated on a single Powerpoint slide.
Once you have completed your Prezi you have the option of downloading it and showing it offline which I would recommend if you are using this in a professional setting. If you are more daring you can opt for the free online-only version that requires that you remain connected throughout the presentation. Both plans offer the ability to share the presentation via Twitter, Facebook or other social networks to maximize the audience that can see it. Premium plans run from $59 to $159 per year.
3 Reasons You Could Use Prezi:
- You are presenting to a group larger than four and want the presentation to appear more polished and different.
- You have lots of images to present and want the ability to focus in and out on certain elements within each design.
- You have a presentation that would be interesting to those outside of your company and you are comfortable sharing your knowledge with the world. With Prezi, you can share each presentation on social networks enabling your audience to grow exponentially.
3 Reasons You Don’t Need Prezi:
- You mostly create internal-focused presentations that can’t be shared outside your company.
- You give small presentations to groups of 1-3 for sales pitches where Powerpoint is still the recommended choice.
- You can’t afford the $149 price tag to control all aspects of sharing and advertising with your Prezi.
