Brightbook Stands Out in Sea of Accounting Apps
If everyone in your school wore the same color clothes every day and you walked in wearing pink, red, and orange, you would definitely get noticed. That’s the philosophy and hope of new accounting startup Brightbook. Attempting to change the way we think about bookkeeping, Brightbook sums it up like this:
Brightbook is fantastic at bookkeeping. It’s not a full accounting package. It won’t do your tax return for you, but it will get everything together that you or your accountant need to do it. Brightbook is for ordinary people to do their regular accounting. For people that basically just need to create invoices and get paid.
We like brutal honesty in apps we review, and we like when they don’t claim that they are going to change the world. Brightbook has that attitude. The pixelated drawing of a guy in a banana suit tells us that.
Right now this application is only available for our British friends, but it will soon be made available in the U.S. Setting up an account is extremely easy and it can be synced against an available bank account or kept completely separate. You can send and receive invoices as part of the app and also keep track of expenses.
They even have a hidden feature in the app which we are pretty sure is unique to financial applications. It is called the Rabbit Hole and is a portal to quick games from a small icon placed on every page.
Brightbook Should Be Given a Chance if You:
- Send and receive a small amount of invoices for your business. If you have a full-time employee handling this then you are definitely too big.
- Reside in the U.K. (coming to U.S. soon).
- Don’t take yourself to seriously.
Brightbook Isn’t For You If:
- You have a full-time accountant.
- You are frequently audited.
- Live outside of the U.K. (hopefully only a problem for a few more months).
