We often review some niche apps on this site, but Preceden ranks right up there as among the most unique. Preceden has one purpose – to help you build a timeline for your website. You could build a timeline of your company’s history or even include it in your corporate bios to add a unique feature to your site.

Preceden is a completely-free, web-based solution that enables your timelines to be kept private or shareable with others. In just a few steps you can create a timeline with as many stops along the way as you would like. One complaint is that you don’t have a lot of customization options when it comes to the look and feel, but the simplicity of the app outweighs these details.

As with all apps we supply you with a sample usage case that will hopefully help you generate some ideas of how your business could be using this product.

Law Firm – Most law firms have a long history of merging and frequently adding and removing partners.  For some clients, a law firm’s history and legacy is a reason to choose one over the other.  You’ve debated adding a detailed year-by-year history in the firm’s about us section, but ultimately decided against it because of the length of the page.  So you turn to Preceden and within 15 minutes have an embeddable timeline that tells the story of your firm in a very visual way.  Even better, your timeline is shareable, adding yet another viral element to your site.

Despite its lack of features, Preceden provides a unique product offering to businesses that may be looking for timeline capabilities.  Yes you could build this timeline in downloadable software packages, but the ease of signup and setup for Preceden makes this a smart move.
