No matter what your position in the company is, there are frequent opportunities to show and prove your ideas with diagrams.  There are a number of apps that provide this service on multiple levels, but GoMockingbird.com is among the easiest we’ve seen.  Since GoMockingbird is still in beta they are not charging for usage of their application.  One of their competitors, LovelyCharts, charges an annual fee for very similar functionality.

GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE
As with all apps we supply you with a sample usage case that will hopefully help you generate some ideas of how your business could be using this product.

  • Local Dry Cleaner – A local dry cleaner has hired a web designer but is trying to find the best way to communicate their vision for the site to the designer.  The dry cleaner could draw it out on a sheet of paper but then they would look even less technical than they already appear.  With GoMockingbird they could show the designer the hierarchy they are looking for on their page, complete with menu choices and even real text.  The dry cleaner would not get into choosing fonts, photos, colors, etc., but they would give the designer the guardrails that will produce a professional site in the end.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Comparable to a scaled-down Microsoft Visio, this application has everything you would need to quickly put together a sample site.  Although it is free, even if you had to nominally pay something for it you would save money by communicating correctly the first time to your web designer and developer.
